Being raw on a long plane ride
Last Wednesday on a 12-hour flight to NYC, I had two raw vegetarian meals on board. I was surprised to learn that ANA provided such an option. Though it was great they catered to all kinds of vegetarians, I found their raw vegan offerings rather meager in size and variety.
Basically the meals were made up of one or two appetizers (mini salad and veggie sticks), plus a main salad which was just a bigger version of the small one. The dressing was a sweet-sourish yellow concoction that smelled full of vinegar so I had to improvise. Plus, they tossed in a bread roll which was not raw…
Thank goodness I had three oranges with me. I squeezed some juice over the salad and peeled the flesh into half-slices and it wasn’t bad at all.
That would be my tip on how to get around tasteless salads not made by yourself. I had four bananas with me so I ate them as snacks or dessert. I also brought along two bentos filled with raw goodies but silly me forgot to take pictures of them. One bento was a veggie sticks plus raw macadamia cheese combo and the other had leftover tabouleh from the night before plus some dates stuffed with almond butter.
Am loving how easy it is to be raw in NYC and will post on my experience soon.
