Movie bento

I used to love hot, buttered popcorn at the movies, but ever since going raw, my feelings towards old junk food faves have changed somewhat. They never taste as good as what I imagine in my mind.

So, I decided not to eat anything that is less than wow, and made a bento full of yummies.

Veggie sticks look boring, but if you have a gorgeous dip, it turns into the party fave. I used Karen Knowler’s basic cheese recipe simply because it’s such a raw classic, simple to make, and deee-licious. It was also the first raw vegan cheese I tried and it’s been ages since I whipped some up. Pleased that the cheese turned out oh-so-creamy.

I stuck a teeny alien on one of the dates stuffed with cashew butter. This stuff must taste close to ambrosia. I can’t get enough of them! I also tucked in some flax crackers to scoop up the cheese.

I love matchy-matchy. I know, I’m a bit weird.

Hey aichaku, there is a Singaporean lady who is a raw foodist and her blog is http://rawfoodlifestyles.com/

Yeah some popular raw staples in the US cannot be found in Asia so I buy them online. I got the csahew butter from The Raw Food World. Some people make their own raw nut butters but you have to be patient enough to grind them into a paste in your food processor. It’s definitely cheaper in the long run but I only have a tiny Cuisinart which I cannot bear to overwork.

Singapore is great for being raw because it’s so hot and there are so many sweet tropical fruit and cheap greens on sale. But raw superfoods are of course hard to find and can only be bought from the US.
