Rockin’ Raw with my bestie

Located in Williamsburg, Rockin’ Raw was one of the best raw restaurants I went to in NYC. The food was Creole and Peruvian inspired so it was full of flavour and packed a real punch.

My bestie lives in this lovely hippie corner in NYC, so we did lunch at Rockin’ Raw to fuel up for a stroll around her ‘hood. It was a cold day and I was actually in the mood for a veggie soup but I was glad that we had a raw meal instead.

We kicked things off with a lavender smoothie that the bestie liked but I didn’t. It tasted very fresh and rich but I couldn’t help but feel I was drinking body lotion.

Made of sea vegetables, mushrooms and nuts, these lil’ babies were scrummy and savoury. The dill sauce went very well with the crab cakes, too. I’ve read in blogs that some folks think the crab cakes are too salty but I thought it was just right for me.

This creamy raw pasta (Tallarines a la Huancaina) was the star of the meal. The rich nut sauce oozed with spices and mysterious goodness — it was so yummy I licked every last bit of it. It was the bestie’s order but she let me have a big bite of it.

This was mine, the BBQ Super Food Mushroom Plate, and it was delicious, too. The marinated kale on the side looked so simple but it was very tasty and the cauliflower rice was lovely, too. The mushroom pattie did taste a little like the crab cakes but I had no complaints.

I must say they were very generous with their desserts — the portions were huge. This was the lucuma cheesecake which was surprisingly cheesy. It was so dense and filling so the bestie took half of it home.

My brownie was not so impressive because it tasted a bit dry, but a scoop of raw vanilla ice cream fixed the problem. The non-raw boyfriend enjoyed the leftovers later.

That’s me freezing my tush off in front of the restaurant. I will definitely go back to Rockin’ Raw if I’m in NYC again.
