Totoro bento

A friend came to stay in my apartment in Tokyo for a holiday and she got me this Totoro bento set as a gift. Totoro is a character in Hayao Miyazaki’s famous anime movies, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away.

I packed some leftover raw coleslaw, an avocado, and a few frozen raw chocolate truffles. I usually tote along a small knife wrapped in a hand towel to slice up the avo. It was a filling late morning snack — much needed because I only had a green smoothie earlier on.

Recipe for raw mayo for coleslaw (in a blender):
1 cup soaked pine nuts (soak for one hour)
1 clove garlic
Juice of half a lemon or 1 tbs of apple cider vinegar
Salt to taste
½ cup water

Drizzle over chopped cabbage and shredded carrot. Such a simple salad but one of my all-time faves.

Even the chopsticks match!

And look at the sleeve…awwwwwww…..

    Hi there!! I just found your blog and i love how pretty everything is! Your photos are great because you have incredibly unique content!! I love bento boxes because they’re adorable, but i have to learn to shrink my appetite so the food i eat will actually fit into a box. :P

    Hi Michelle, thanks for dropping by. You should try bigger ones to suit your needs — my small ones are just for snacks and I do have bigger ones that can fit a good-sized salad. Leaves can be squashed quite well!

    @Michal: I never thought I would own a cutesy one but I likey…
