What I used to eat and what I eat now

I stumbled across a small excerpt from my super old blog that I wrote aeons ago, when I was surfing for old posts to re-post in my other blog where I talk about being a Tokyo expat.

This is what it says…

My favourite breakfasts [in 2005]:

Dried cranberries with warm oats
Soft-boiled eggs on toast
Whole-grain bran cereal with blueberries and skim milk
Cheese and tomato omelette with a sprinkle of dried basil
A homemade skinny latte

I used to buy mee rebus, or laksa, or carrot cake, or roti prata for breakfast everyday when I worked in [ABC company in 2002]. Scary — no wonder I put on so much weight since then.

Now I just have a large green juice or a green smoothie or a bowl of chia pudding to start the day. I was amazed at how awful my food choices were back in 2002. I remember working out at a gym every morning and then “reward” myself with an oily, spicy local hawker dish. I literally poured the calories back into my body after every workout session and probably more.

I used to cling onto the belief that a big cooked breakfast was necessary to start the day well, but after experimenting with eating less in the morning this year, I actually feel fresher and mentally more nimble. Come to think of it, it’s been almost a whole year since I threw myself into raw food and I’m still loving it. My fave new raw foods are goji berries, maca powder, wheatgrass, hemp powder and hemp seeds, on top of a plethora of greens and juicy fruit.

But having said that, I believe my diet will continue to evolve as I go along this path and I wonder what the future might bring…

Dont you love seeing how you have changed from a few months or years ago. Like me I never used to eat breakfast and now I cant live without it. I wonder sometimes where im going to be food wise tomorrow, or two years from now. But i have a felling that I will always be raw or high raw because I feel so good eating this way.

Also what is maca? I have heard so much about it but never tried it. What does it taste like? :)

    Hi Michal,

Sorry for the late reply. Am still on holiday and without my laptop. Maca is a powder made from a South American root plant which helps to balance out your hormones. A lot of women swear by it as it regulates your mood swings, cycles, and promotes overall health and energy.
